I think the guy at office depot
(near los alamitos racetrack)
"sir jerked" me...most clerks who have a bit of a sleazy and/or cowardly side to them always have a variety of ways to insult the customers without you realizing, obviously, that they are doing so (ie they make sure it is just a bit nebulous enough so that you cannot with certainty report them for being disrespectful)...thus they use words that can be used in both positive & negative ways, depending on the tone & innuendo...for example "sir" can be a sign of respect or disrespect depending on how it is said and used...in terms of disrespect..they are implying that you are a legalistic-no-talent-demand-respect-just-because personality...the truth being that it is often the clerk himself who is such type...(they also use "boss" in the same way)..ie it is the clerk who most often has dropped out of college (or never went) and is just demanding respect for being a human...and is essentially hiding behind the counter as a barrier to the world...and our only role and worth as a customer is a person with money and with a purpose who must come & go as such...and their role is to keep an eye on us to make sure we don't steal from them or disturb the peace in any way. They have reduced us to "customers"...we have no other value to them. And they have allowed themselves to have no other value than that of "clerk." So it is they who are the "sirs" or "bosses" who demand respect just because, and yet they project their own feeling of worthlessness on to others...I call it "sir jerking" even if you don't deserve it, or in some cases especially because you don't deserve it.
